Many data portability topics are theoretical until the exact moment the consumer is presented with an "authorize" button. At this point, regulators, consumer advocates and third parties need to know: (1) Is it secure? (2) Is it standards-compliant? and (3) What will it actually look like?

To answer these questions, we developed a first-ever interactive demonstration, the Green Button Consent Toolkit. Users can input different scenarios and see what the customer sees: the accounts to be selected, the amount of historical data to be shared, and disclaimers to be presented. Dozens of "what if" scenarios can be instantly modeled. For utilities wondering about user experience best practices, we've taken care of that too. And for third parties wondering how "scope strings" should be assembled, we've covered that as well. The Consent Toolkit is free to use, so long as you register with your email address.

Mission:data Labs is the hub for all of our technical projects, including the Green Button Scorecard(tm) and the Consent Toolkit. Stay tuned for enhancements and new projects at labs.missiondata.io.

Finally, a caveat: Ongoing improvements are underway on the Consent Toolkit. Comprehensive technical documentation is forthcoming but not available just yet. Send bugs, complaints or compliments to greenbutton@missiondata.io.
